There are some songs you write, and there are some songs that appear out of nowhere. “Rollin’” was one of the latter. It poured out of me, and before I knew it, there it was. Like I had plucked it out of the air. In fact, in challenging moments, I find myself reciting the lyrics as a pep talk, as if I didn’t write it at all.
It was written after a trip out west to Montana and Wyoming. I had never seen such open space before - as far as the eye can see and then some. Born and raised in NYC, I’m not used to space. I love the city to death, but sometimes it can be oppressive. Especially these days. Everything is in the shadow of a skyscraper. Seeing that much open space lifted all of that pressure away…
Songs can be gifts. Sometimes the listener is the recipient, sometimes the songwriter is. I snatched this one, but I'm happy to share if you need it, too. ❤️
